When I insert a cd or dvd it is mounted automatically in kde. When I try to umount it by right clicking on it and select unmount, it says:
Unfortunately, the device system:/media/hdb (/dev/hdb) named 'cd title' and currently mounted at /media/cd title could not be unmounted.
Unmounting failed due to the following error:
hal-storage-can-unmount-volumes-mounted-by-others refused uid 1000
My user ID is 1000 and I am in these groups:
video audio optical floppy storage scanner camera users
Even after I logoff, it stays mounted. However, I *can* umount it with:
pumount /media/cd\ title
Ridiculous as it seems, this is very annoying as I use one archlinux box mostly as audio/video player and have only a wireless mouse to control it. Another box is used by my parents who need a simple point and click interface.
My /etc/fstab:
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hdc1 / reiserfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hdc2 /home reiserfs defaults 0 0
# I also have 2 nfs mount points, but those are irrelevant

Maybe you should add yourself to the HAL group.
To be a preacher requires two apparently contradictory qualities: confidence and humility.

Thanks, but it doesn't help, I get the same error. I did logout and login after change to /etc/group
Speaking of HAL, the user hal is member of optical, floppy and storage groups, as it should be.

yes, but are _you_ a member of storage the group?

Solved! I deleted contents of /media/.hal-mtab and removed directory /media/dvd which I have no idea why or when it was created.
