Can't Boot Using Intel Chipset

Hi!

I recently changed the hardware on my computer from an abit MB + athlon processor to MSI MB + intel 2.6Ghz processor only to get dumped to a recovery console on boot. The error message seems to be about not being able to find root device which I think has something to do with http://www.archlinux.org/news/273/ from which I learnt my setup is affected by the change.

Hence, I tried to follow http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fix … _subsystem
but echo /dev/hd* or sd* shows no valid partitions under my default suspend2 kernels.

Doing the same on my fallback kernel yields

/dev/hda /dev/hda1 /dev/hda2 /dev/hda3 /dev/hda4 /devhdc /dev/hdd

corresponding correctly to my 4 partitions and 2 cd rom drives.

Also, I was able to boot into the system by adding 'rootfstype=reiserfs earlymodules=piix rootdelay=8' or 'boot=ide-legacy' only in the fallback kernel grub entry.

Any ideas?

Re: Can't Boot Using Intel Chipset

Hmm... reinstalling suspend2 kernel seems to make it work fine with the 'earlymodules=piix' option which i read somewhere is supposed to be added when using intel chipsets. Thanks for ur input!
