OpenOffice+Openbox/Gnome: full screen mode issues

When I try to use OpenOffice in full screen mode in either Openbox or Gnome everything seems to display correctly but I can't type anything in the Openoffice window.  Mouse works fine.  If I have another application opened on the same desktop, like urxvt for example, whatever I type will appear in urxvt even if OpenOffice is focused.  Alt-Tab also seems to ignore the fact that OpenOffice is opened on the desktop and doesn't see it.  Anybody knows a solution to this?

Edit: I use two monitors (nvidia twinview), which might be what contributes to or causes this problem - I just checked on my laptop and everything works fine there.
