Please someone can make a pkgbuild for oracle?
thanks
Offline
Oracle XE ships as a RPM / DEB file, as a binary (of course).
Since it's already packed and can be installed using RPM / DEB, i think it's better just to use one of those tools to install oracle xe.
Ability is nothing without opportunity.

Emm.. "one of those tools"? We don't have those tools in Arch. ![]()
We usually handle these kind of situations by using rpmextract or rpmunpack in a PKGBUILD.

Someone can help me?
you need to extract install scripts from .rpm - mc can do that with rpm tools, and selectively executes some lines of them
I already forgot the steps, however there is a rc.d script you may find useful:
#!/bin/bash
. /etc/rc.conf
. /etc/rc.d/functions
ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
ORACLE_OWNER=oracle
ORACLE_SID=XE
LSNR=$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl
SQLPLUS=$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus
SU=/bin/su
export ORACLE_HOME
export ORACLE_SID
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
LOG="$ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER/listener.log"
export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
PID=`pidof -o %PPID xe_pmon_XE`
CONFIG_NAME=oracle-xe
CONFIGURATION="/etc/sysconfig/$CONFIG_NAME"
case "$1" in
start)
stat_busy "Starting Oracle Database \"orcl\""
if [ -z "$PID" ]; then
/usr/bin/nice -16 /bin/su oracle -c "lsnrctl start >/var/log/oracle/lsnr-start.log 2>&1; echo -e 'CONNECT sys/sys AS sysdba\\nSTARTUP\\n' | sqlplus /nolog >/var/log/oracle/db-start.log 2>&1"
fi
if [ ! -z "$PID" -o $? -gt 0 ]; then
stat_fail
else
add_daemon oracle
stat_done
fi
;;
stop)
stat_busy "Stopping Oracle Database \"orcl\""
[ ! -z "$PID" ] && /usr/bin/nice -16 /bin/su oracle -c "echo -e 'CONNECT sys/sys AS sysdba\\nSHUTDOWN\\n' | sqlplus /nolog >/var/log/oracle/db-stop.log 2>&1; lsnrctl stop >/var/log/oracle/lsnr-stop.log 2>&1"
if [ $? -gt 0 ]; then
stat_fail
else
rm_daemon oracle
stat_done
fi
;;
restart)
$0 stop
sleep 1
$0 start
;;
*)
echo "usage: $0 {start|stop|restart}"
esacBTW if you don't mind the disk space, just use the real oracle (free for developer). I think XE is not good for coding at all, because it has a complete different setup, management tools, and lack of some advanced functionality.

Hi atlas95,
it's a little bit late, but I ran into the same problem ;-)
So I decided to create a PKGBUILD on my own (my first PKGBUILD btw.)
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … 1&ID=12643
I had to change the original configure script because of missing sga_target and pga_aggregate_target parameters (this was a pain in the ass to find that out)
The most important step is to run the oraconfig.sh script to create the oracle configuration, control files, tablespaces, etc.
After a hopefully successfull installation you should logout and login again because I've placed "oracle_env.sh" into your /etc/profile.d/ directory.
I hope this works.
@aquila_deus:
Thanks for your startscript ;-)
I've added this to my PKGBUILD

Wat is it with me? Is my mindset not "arch" enough? Been using slackware and other distro's too much in the past? Do I think I use arch but too stupid to really understand?
I run arch, and I wanted to install IBM's DB2. So I downloaded and installed using the IBM scripts. Now it runs fine.
Yes guilty-as-charged: it does not install with the 'pacman' command. Why would anyone qualify that as a "problem"? Or am I being selfish? Anyone wanting to install DB2 as well could have benefited from my effords. Is that it?
Somewhere between "too small" and "too large" lies the size that is just right.

You will need to manually keep track of updates, and removing is more difficult than pacman -R db2. Etcetera. But use whatever you feel comfortable with ![]()

Well, i'd say that's not just a arch way. In every distribution there should be packages made if you're installing something, since that's why distributions have a package manager, also to keep track of installed packages and dependencies.
Of course, you could do it like on a lfs box, keeping all install sources etc. to make a uninstall. Still, it's by far "uncleaner" than using a real package manager.
And now, let's come down to pacman. Pacman is very easy to use, not just to use but also to create packages. Therefore a majority CAN make working packages, even though, they rarely are clean.

Sorry to revive this thread, but how do you start oracle once you install oracle-xe?
Offline
Okay, I got this partially working...If I intall oracle-xe and then oracle-instantclient everything works fine and I can connect to the DB through sqlplus, but if I restart my computer and then start oracle through /etc/rc.d/oracle-xe start it doesn't work...It says it started but I can't connect to the DB...
Any ideas?

Is your user in the "dba" group?
What's the error message?
Do you log in with "sqlplus username/password@XE" ?
Did oraconfig.sh run without errors?
Is the listener "tnslsnr" active?
Are your environmental vars set? (env|grep ORACLE)?

Hi,
I follow this package and I receive this error output:
