Sox doesn't support mp3 files?

The Sox manual says mp3 is a supported file format, but trying to convert a mp3 file into a wav shows that it is not. Did you disable it because of patents or something?

Re: Sox doesn't support mp3 files?

Are you using the example in the soxexam man page?

AFAIK, and based on the ABS PKGBUILD file, the package is unpatched so things should work as the developer intended. However, I don't have any mp3 files to test with so I can not guarantee this.

No, just an average mp3. Thanks anyway, I'll keep searching.

Sorry, I should have been more explicit with the question. In the man page 'soxexam' is an example for playing mp3 files. This example pipes the mp3 to sox as raw data. This leads me to believe the support was removed by the sox developers.
