Re: kdemod

Its just a matter of personal choice/preference.

If you want
- a vanilla KDE
- no splitted packages

then just go with Archs KDE.

If you want KDE
- with additional patches/features/eyecandy
- splitted packages

then try KDEmod.

There are some issues but these are upstream, so we cannot solve them anyway. The KDEmod installation instructions should answer your last question about rebuilding apps.

want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod

Re: kdemod

I can highly recommend kdemod. The splitted packages and the additional features are great.

kdemod uses a patched qt version so you should recompile those applications. I guess you could use kdemod with Arch's qt version, unless kdemod depends on any of these enhancements, which I doubt. But I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Re: kdemod

You do not need to recompile any qt applications for KDEmods qt-enhanced. Its fully compatible.

KDEmods kdebase and kdelibs packages depend on qt-enhanced because of the rubberband and xinerama patches, so dont use archs qt with KDEmod or you will possibly notice some strange effects...

thanks to the developers of kdemod.
i'm really impressed. i don't know what patches are applied to kdemod, but it's faster than other distribution kde desktops i know.

Re: kdemod

We usually do a full recompile on every new gcc release. The last gcc upgrade brought a quite good speed boost in KDE smile
