[SOLVED] Total system freeze when starting compiz/beryl

Ok, this is a really weird problem. I have an ATi 9200 graphics card (using the OSS drivers), and since a few days - starting compiz (or any composite WM) just totally freezes the system.. I don't understand this because it worked fine before, and I didn't touch xorg.conf or the X libraries. I even tried deleting my local config files, and it still doesn't work.

Did the last -Syu break something in xorg?, or am I the only one having this issue?

I added XAANoOffscreenpixmaps to xorg.conf and it works now - still weird because it worked before that though....
