[SOLVED] Can't make a boot CD.

Oddly enough, and no matter how many different combinations I try, I keep failing when I try to create an installation CD for Arch (2007.08 base and full).  I don't know if it is my software or hardware malfunctioning, but in the past I have had zero problems installing other Linux distributions.  Currently I am running Debian 4.0, and using Gnome baker to burn my CDs.  I have an IDE Samsung CD-RW drive, and it is recognized in the BIOS and in the OS with no problems.  What I am doing wrong?

Edit: I used Alcohol 120% under Windows to burn a bootable CD.

Are you able to boot from other boot cds? Are there any errors when you try to burn the CD?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't make a boot CD.

There are no errors when I burn the CD, except for the fact that my system will not recognize it as a bootable CD.  I checked the BIOS, and the CD drive has boot priority.  I have had no problems installing Ubuntu and Debian, and can't understand why this does not work.

Update:  I tried burning a Gparted CD, but that won't boot either.  Currently, I use Gnomebaker, but that does not burn ISOs correctly, so I extract them before burining.

Meep! You have to burn those images as they are, the boot sector gets "lost" when you extract them first. If GnomeBaker can't do this, use cdrecord or a similar app.

Gnomebaker does burn ISO images; I've done it many times. K3B though is most likely a better GUI alternative.

What software you use isn't that important though as long as you burn the ISO image as it is.

I couldn't get Gnomebaker to correctly 'bake' the image, so I did the next best thing.  I hijacked a Windows machine with Alcohol 120% and burned the image I needed.  I got the Arch base install running, so I am happy!

Thanks for the support!

For next time, I suggest brasero from cummunity. It was able to reliably burn the 2007.08 base iso for me.
