No PCM mixer-element in ALSA.

Got this error all of a sudden:

** WARNING **: alsa_setup_mixer(): Failed to find mixer element: PCM

Now it's pretty much impossible to adjust the sound. Stuck at a pretty loud minimum volume.

Anyone seen this error before and know a good solution?

Thanks in advance.
Just ask for more info if needed.

Re: No PCM mixer-element in ALSA.

Installed a old backup in desperate need of sound.
Would still appreciate it if anyone know what could cause such a problem.

Re: No PCM mixer-element in ALSA.

Please include your sound system details (usb sound?)

You may need to re-install alsa.  Do you have kde?  It  has an alsa interface as well.

Sound problems involve many devices.....

Re: No PCM mixer-element in ALSA.

It is a onboard Realtek-chip.
No KDE-packages installed and reinstalling did not work.

Broken mixer kernel-modules maybe?
