Hi all -
I've been using my laptop monitor connected to the TV for a long time, to watch films etc, with the config below. I have a nvidia geforce 7300 go in a Dell inspiron 6400 laptop. This has worked well but now suddenly all I get is black on the TV screen. When X starts and exits the screen flickers - which suggest that at least the s-video connection is ok. The error in Xorg.log is
NVIDIA(1): Unable to find available Display Devices for screen 1.I tried reverting to old drivers but no difference. Can someone please help me to get the tv out working again?

I'd setup a xorg.conf which runs with only the laptop's monitor and call nvidia-settings from within X. This configures dual head setups pretty well.
I always do that, save the new xorg.conf to my home directory and modify the system's xorg.conf where it's needed.

I tried this but nvidia-settings just does not see the TV at all. If I click 'detect displays' the TV flickers but it will not detect.
If the TV is flickering when X starts, is this reliable indication that connection between laptop and TV is working? If so, perhaps this is just a driver/configuration problem.....

well after messing about with twinview and millions of obscure nvidia driver options, it works again.
The important changes I made regard the use of options "ConnectedMonitor" and "UseDisplayDevice".
Specifically, I added
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP,TV"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP,TV"to each device section of the xorg.conf posted earlier.
Probably I don't need both but hey it works.:D
