try running xscreensaver-demo.

I don't think that KDEmod utilizes xscreensaver at all. KDE and therefore KDEmod have their own implementation of Screensavers.

I've installed the rss-glx package too. I'm running Gnome, so it may be different in KDE. When you run 'pacman -S rss-glx' you get a message telling you to run 'rss-glx_install.pl' as your user before you can use the screensavers.
That makes them accessible and previewable / usable in Gnome. Don't know if it would work or is necessary in KDE.

IIRC, Gnome uses a system directly derived from xscreensaver and can hence use the same modules. I still doubt that KDE does that. Can anyone confirm that?

KDE just uses an (inferior) xscreensaver wrapper, so it shares the same screensavers.

Just a silly thought. Make sure that you have Screen Power Management enabled and then each of the subfields for blanking the screen, spinning down the disk etc. disabled. If not, I find that the screen saver never runs - instead the screen just blanks out. I had set "DPMS" to "False" in xorg.conf, but found that I had to also ENABLE power management in KDE and then DISABLE each of its sub functions in order to get the desired result.
I don't know if this might help you, but I thought I might mention it.
