Hi,
Yesterday, after doing a "pacman -Syu", i noticed a lot of new gnome dependencies (gconf, libbonobo...). After investigating it, i realized that they were new dependencies for the gtk-qt-engine pkg. Well, without saying the exact reasons, i'll say that i deleted gtk-qt-engine, and dependencies. I don't want that new dependendencies.
The new look of firefoxis a bit uglyer, but nothing important.
But, what i have noticed, is that now, firefox is faster. Not rendering webpages, menues instead. With a "right click", the menu appears almost instantly. Before removing gtk-qt, there was a delay. Firefox is now a lighter app.
I think this is not subjetive.
Bye

This is the case with all programs. Install gtk-engines and start the minesweeper from gnome-games. First, use clearlooks and clear the field by clicking a bomb. Then switch to the simple theme or mist and do it again, you'll see what I mean.

Indeed, the shiny gtk themes are all much slower than the simpler ones.
pacman roulette : pacman -S $(pacman -Slq | LANG=C sort -R | head -n $((RANDOM % 10)))

Yep same here. I discovered that the dependencies were from gtk-qt-engine before updating it. I also hate having to install this new dependencies :X If gtk-qt-engine worked before without these dependencies why are they needed now?

If you want GTK and Qt apps to look the same (and who doesn't?), I've always found QtCurve to be much faster than the GTK-Qt Engine. In fact, although this is entirely subjective, it feels faster to me than some of the fancier "native" GTK themes like Ubuntulooks or Murrina, if not quite up to the blistering pace of Simple and Smooth. It's also a lot more successful at actually looking the same under both toolkits.
As far as I recall - I built it from scratch on Another Distro - it doesn't have any weird dependencies.

I run xfwm under kde.. gtk apps look good and I got plenty of window decorations.

gtk-qt-engine from kdemod repo still have 'normal' dependencies (gtk2 and kdelibs).

another place where you can get gtk-qt engine without useless dependencies:

or just get the PKGBUILD via ABS, remove the libbonoboui dependency and do a 'makepkg -i'
