I've lost my GNOME shutdown icon. Yeah I know what you're thinking, I've accidently remoted the applet from my panel. Well, I haven't. After a kernel upgrade a while back, it went all greyed out, like any option that's there but you can't click. So in an effort to restore its functionality, I removed it. Lo and behold, in the Add to Panel dialogue, the shutdown applet isn't there.
Any ideas?

I had very similar problem when I was using ubuntu, only way to shut down was halt command.

That's what you get for removing functionality, which might confuse users - in this case a possibility to add a shutdown button. Ihih.
Sorry, can't really help (unless grinning can be considered help).

u can add one via a gnome menu editor (alacarte) .. as mentioned above it is removed if you remove functionality, this may come in the form of you not logging in via gdm.

Ah. I started using SLiM to login around the time it stopped working. How strange, why can't you shutdown via GNOME if you don't login via GDM? Wierd.

Hey guess what everyone!
I am now using GDM again but my shutdown icon is still greyed-out and unusable.
Case in point:
gnome-power-manager is running also.
