When i plug a usb/cd into my computer (running gnome) it does open a window with my device already mounted.
How can i make gnome ask me what i want to do (similar to kde). something like:
burn with app.
play in app"

System -> Preferences -> Removable Media (something like that)

hdoria, sorry it's not possible to do that under gnome. You can't make it ask you what you want to do with the device. You can only set a default action under "removable devices and media" ad it'll automatically use that.
Kknd, he has that installed but he wants it to ask him for an action every time he inserts a media device instead of using a predefined option in "removable devices and media".

Maybe you want to report your request to bugs.gnome.org, I did a quick search and this topic didn't come up, but it would be quite handy sometimes.

hhhmm.... would be nice to have a quick and dirty gui that just asks you what to do, an interesting project for somebody wanting to learn gtk+.
