Settings for xterm-256color in screen

I've been fighting with this one for a while: in the post-installation message, it says to enter term screen-236color in .screenrc, but in programs like mutt, mocp and others, this would still give corrupted colors for the background at places where there is no text (in mocp from the start, in mutt after updating a line, e.g. passing over it with the "cursor" line).
Here's a screenshot for reference:

Anyway, I found that if I changed the TERM value to screen-256color-s both in .screenrc and in .zshrc, it all works as it should.
Perhaps this should be changed in the instructions, or - if my luck is just a happy coincidence - someone instruct me about how to do it right.
But at least it's working...
