every X has xkill starting when you press [ctrl][alt][esc] (so no need to make bindings by hand :-) )....

Are you sure? Nothing happens with Xfree 4.3 if I don't bind it manually, and I'm quite sure it doesn't do anything with 4.4 either. Perhaps your window manager does it for you, but my Fluxbox doesn't anyway.

It's [ctrl][alt][backspace] I think, not [ctrl][alt][esc]...

Re: system crash!!!

alt+strg+backspace kills the X-Server
that should go with all wm's

alt+strg+esc should start xkill
with xfce4 it doesn't work
but under kde it does it seems to be wm dependent

It is not hardware !!!!

I had another one (after I opend my case, clean the dust off check all the power cables ....).
But this time I could move the mouse(although the mouse pointer was the busy one) .

running
xfce, firefox

after 15 minutes nothing happened

I wonder if cleaning up a bit and checking some plugs will be enough to proof hardware is not damaged ...  roll  Ok, it may be enough fore on ore another exclamation mark, but three of them should require some deeper inspections.

You had arch crashing. You had fedora crashing. Let your system eat some knoppix. If it crashs, it is your maschine.

Re: system crash!!!

Check the memory, that random crashes a lot of times are caused by bad memory.  Try memtest86.

Re: system crash!!!

you could try using lm_sensors to find out if your PC is frying. I bought a very cheap case, and in order to prevent my motherboard from being burned I have a gdesklet which tells me the CPU temp, and the motherboard voltage (I'm not that paranoid as you see  wink ).

And where were all the sportsmen who always pulled you though?

Re: system crash!!!

in knoppix runs fine, memtest86 does not find any trouble.

I've just reinstalled Arch linux, did a pacman -Syu,
worked fine for 1 day, and the crash
running:

xfce , xmms , mozilla

I am dissapointed !!!!
Arch linux is almost exactly as I want a linux distro to be !!!!

Re: system crash!!!

With the nv module it doesn't crash, the nvidia one is a "killer" !!!!
This is the poblem .
I installed the nvidia driver from their site, this time, but the last time it was the package.
The nvidia driver is the problem.

Re: system crash!!!

try to disable agp or reduce the speed to 2x
or change the agp mode to nvidia agp

i guess it's agp related look at the README there are some hints about that

by the way if you use my package from staging you don't need to download the file from nvidia it's exactly the same
it's installed to opt/nvidia

Re: system crash!!!

my package uses the installer without the precompiled modules for suse redhat etc. that's the reason for a smaller package
if you run ./NVidia-etc.run in /opt/nvidia it should give you the same result
for me it works but i run the machine max. 16 hours per day

is it only my package that crashs your system or the nvidia file from the homepage too?
