pausing mplayer remotely

I've got a nice new keyboard with loads of extra buttons, one of them is play/pause. I'd love to tie this to mplayer and was wondering if there was any way to issue commands to an already running player through a script.

I don't mean that I want the button to just act as pressing the p button while the terminal with mplayer on has the focus, I mean at any time I want to be able to hit the button and issue a command, through a bash script, to mplayer to pause or restart.

Hope this makes sense.

Re: pausing mplayer remotely

You need to run mplayer as slave and to use a FIFO.

Exemple with Fvwm:
