openoffice without individual user install

This is a pretty impressive thing that portage (/me ducks) did -- it installed openoffice to /opt/(i think) and allowed any user to just type "oowriter" in a console to get openoffice.org word, rather than having to install it into their home directory upon first use.

I'm thinking of learning pacman packages to convert this ebuild -- it's basically just bash so...maybe.  i'm not positive how abs/pacman compares to portage

they use ximian-office to build the office i guess
