Splashy

Hi all, what's the current splashy - arch development status? Is it coming to arch? I don't want to patch my kernel every time a new one comes out. Frugalware has splashy running and for what i know Frugalware is based on Archlinux, can't Frugalware's splashy package be adapted to run on Arch? Looking at my screen while booting seems so dated with the lack of bling roll

Re: Splashy

It's in the AUR.

Splashy is entirely userspace, so no kernel patches are required.

Re: Splashy

I recently rewrote the splashy scripts to support initscripts-splash. I also had a look at the frugalware package, but it isn't usefull because they don't use the same initscripts as Arch (as far as I saw).:)

Re: Splashy

I've tried splashy but my laptop almost burns on boot and the boot time it's twice if not more as slow. Conclusion: i like what splashy brings to arch but in it's current condition it's useless. sad I can't code or i'd gladly help.

Re: Splashy

I think it has to do with the how the framebuffer graphics is addressed. Afaik, the splashy framebuffer is not fully utilizing the hardware offloading in the graphics cards available nowadays, even in the older hardware.

Re: Splashy

I dont consider myself having older hardware i have a laptop with a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz processor and 1 Gig RAM my video card is a Intel video card (xf86-intel-video). This setup is a very common one for nowadays laptops, i guess roll. Splashy in arch is just slow at the current state. Just have to wait for a better release, in the mean time i'm using gensplash wink it does the trick.
