Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

installed compiz-fusion and other than some minor issues it's running fine. wanted to install emerald 0.5.2-1 and themes but can't get it. is it in nesl247's package or somewhere else? never mind. had some stuff i didn't need. removed and reinstalld and now it seems to work with no issues. got emerald in when i redid it. so all is good now. thank you

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Just installed it perfectly. My GF2 mx gets the job done, though it could be a little smoother - but the nagain you don't hear me complain with this 5 year old computer...

I do have the problem with the broken fusion-icon icon...

I'm also missing the kde-window-decorator. I'm currently using the gtk-window-decorator. It's not that bad, but i prefer plastik

I have X700 (R410, I think) and Compiz Fusion works like a dream, using open source (radeon) driver. Everything is stable & fast. The only problem is the 3D effects, which because of the driver, is a little slower than it should be.

I have tried fglrx and while the 3D effect is faster when using it (much, much more faster), the whole thing was so unstable (thanks to damnable GLX & no ALGLX supports)  that it crashes my desktop every now and then.

But as long as I use the open source driver, everything is as smooth as silk. And so the moral of this story is, if you have ATi card, then use open source driver if you can. If you card isn't supported by the open source driver then, well, you're in for a tough ride until ATi rolls out new driver that supports AIGLX. Let's hope the next fglrx driver is as good as they said it would be.

Now this is why having a semi-obsolete graphic card can be a good thing. big_smile

on a x1900 I haven't experienced any problems with fglrx + glx as far as stability goes, other weird problems yes.

mainly my problem is "3d windows" are broke, due to arch64 i think, and also i get a lot of tearing when i move windows, but i blame xserver for that, because it occurs regardless of compiz's presence.

Correction after a restart of X: the icon is there and everything feels smoother.

I've got a X700 too, using open source, but still getting random lock ups. I had them with different distros, and I thought it was OS drivers' fault. But from what you say, it may just be a problem of xorg.conf. Could you please post yours?
Btw the repository is great, I'm using arch for a while and I love it smile

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

I have a weird problem with my radeon card. If I build something from source while using Compiz Fusion, X crashes. I'm using the open source driver. Maybe it's the drivers? *Waits eagerly for the new official open source drivers with AIGLX*

I know, it should be fixed now. I fixed a few bugs in my script today which caused that error (hopefully).

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

nesl247: Mith and I have been discussing the proper procedure for Xfce users to Compiz Fusion from your repo.  Perhaps you can confirm this one way or another.  Should Xfce users choose the KDE method or GNOME method?

XFCE should use the gnome method, it is after all Gnome Light in a way.

I thought as much, but we weren't quite certain.  I'll leave the wiki as is then.  Thanks!

sash, those are probably from apache restarting a few times (rebuild apache). It should stop within about 10-20 minutes.

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

I'm getting this with the latest update.

$ emerald --replace
emerald: error while loading shared libraries: libwnck-1.so.22: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

# ln -s /usr/lib/libwnck-1.so.18.2.10 /usr/lib/libwnck-1.so.22

$ emerald --replace
emerald: symbol lookup error: emerald: undefined symbol: wnck_window_get_client_window_geometry

Where can I get that "libwnck-1.so.22"?

Oh crap heh, I forgot that I installed gnome 2.19. It's been fixed. I might make gnome 2.19 repo a requirement, not sure yet. What would you all think of that?

I'd suggest you wait for 2.20, its just a few weeks away. smile

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Nesl247, I'm getting an import error.  I thought the issue with libwnck-1.so.22 was fixed.

[jerry@localhost ~]$ fusion-icon
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/fusion-icon", line 57, in <module>

    import os, compizconfig, data, ConfigParser, time
ImportError: libX11-xcb.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Another Problem:
I cannot install the libx11 from testing, I did a fresh install but use the "current" version of libx11.
When I was about install the "testing" version it called a conflict of files.

Proceed with installation? [Y/n] y
:: Retrieving packages from testing...

I did try sudo "pacman -R libx11" to remove the "current" and install the "testing" but it pulled out dependency problems, what would be the safest way to do this, without breaking anything of course.

[jerry@localhost ~]$ sudo pacman -R libx11

Re: Compiz Fusion Repository

Just "mv /etc/profile.d/xorg.sh /etc/profile.d/xorg.sh.old" and then re-install libx11.
