Thanks and such.

Just thought I'd post a little something saying thanks to the Arch devs and community for the great distribution and documentation.  I'm switching over from Gentoo / Ubuntu.  I had Gentoo on my desktop for the longest time, then got into Ubuntu for a while, becoming active in the community there by answering questions in the forums.  Eventually, I heard about Arch, and decided to check it out.  I first installed "Don't Panic" in a VirtualBox virtual machine on my evil Vista laptop (I have heat and sound issues, at least in Ubuntu.  It's a Toshiba Satellite P105-6227) and got hooked.  What's cool is that when I decided to take the plunge on the desktop, I have a functional system in about 30 minutes.  That's even shorter than Ubuntu took me.

Basically, I've found a new home in Arch.  I'm going to partition my laptop and see if Arch digs my laptop a bit better than Ubuntu, then hopefully I can completely remove Vista.  So, once again, thanks to everyone involved in Arch.  I only have one slight issue to work out, and that's my fonts.  I've been over the documentation and wiki, but there's still something causing a few fuzzy fonts.

You're poison, I don't want to break these chains

Re: Thanks and such.

Misfit - nice. smile

Endperform - I'll add my welcomes here too. Re your laptop's heat and sound issues, hopefully Arch, and the community, will inspire you (and help you) to fix them too.

Another welcome from me. I just recognized that we are among the communities (if not the one) which greet newbies the utmost friendly way we can.

Feeling home just some seconds beyond arrival. Nice job!

Re: Thanks and such.

Yeah, it's good stuff here indeed.

Cerebral: I'll take a shot of Yaegermeister straight up heh

Tomk: I'll probably give it a go shortly.  It's running great on the desktop and in virtualbox on my laptop.   My main concern is custom DSDT support, which it looks like can be set up from the get-go.  I'll keep everyone posted.  Last night I got my first taste of AUR... man, I'm hooked now. smile

They can't spell it right though...

Re: Thanks and such.

Yeah, they spell it in a funny way, but that's mostly because of their lack of umlauts. English lacks them and I'm glad it does.

Here in the U.S. at least, we spell it Jägermeister.
