As per a discussion with Andyrtr, it seems that many users find that the current splash is far too similar to the default WindowsXP 'Bliss' wallpaper.
Therefore, we are making this thread asking for submissions for new artwork for a new OpenOffice splash screen.
Image size should be not more than 300x350 pixels and in bitmap format 'intro.bmp'
Images should be modern looking and elegant with visually pleasing and non-distracting colors.
OpenOffice 2.3.0 final should be out soon so submissions should be make during the next few says.
So show us your artistic talents and share your designs
Thank you.

please make use of our logo!

Yes, I am one of those who had always complained about the "XP" logo. ;-)
I think the ddefault intro.bmp is quite nice. So I just added our logo. The statusbar will be at the bottom. I am not sure about the text "Arch Linux". Perhaps we could left it.
See
PS: It`s 440*286 like the original from OOo. So I wonder why ours should be smaller.

funkyou's first.

Well, a black screen looks like kind "underground 1337" distro. Imho a lighter splash would be more professional.
Offline
That depends on your background, doesn't it. funkyou's second would be fine for me, but I hope to see more suggestions.

i agree that a light background would probably be more appropriate, but i do like colors of the text. maybe a light background and the text with a border around it?
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Why do we need to customise it?
+1 for the stock splash.

the OpenOffice pkg eats so much efforts - it's really worth customizing it a bit.
afaik we have our own artwork on every desktop built into the packages. kde, xfce and gnome have blue ArchLinux wallpapers and login managers. we should probably try to make the splash fit into that.

not sure I understand you.

Not a fan of those either. OOo also isnt a desktop environment - and I kinda liked the stock OOo splash.

Maybe bring the letters in Funk You's design towards the bottom like the original OpenOffice logo. Then add a similar vertical blue to white gradient but without the pattern. In effect it would be a cross between Funk You's design and the original. It would remain light enough to look good on most systems, and would have some of the Arch colors.

T-u-N-i-X, nice design. But is it possible to fix the border around the letters in 'OpenOffice.org' text?
funkyou's second logo is nice as well.

@hussam: What do you mean by fixing ? Deleting the borders or blurring them ?
Quis custodiet ipsos custodiet?

maybe blurring them would work. But it does look good right now anyway.

Wow, the new one is really nice. Much better than the original 2, IMHO that is.

T-u-N-i-X, very nice work
Edit:. You'll need to change 'suit' to 'suite'

I really liked T-u-N-i-X's new option. I'll vote for that.

It's not even as half as good as T-u-N-i-X's logo, but just so that you don't say I didn't try, here goes:
there's also a xcf file

I vote for T-u-N-i-X's three design with the correction of suite instead of suit. Nice one, good job T-u-N-i-X.
