Running arch versions of everything from pacman, so no custom compile issues should be messing with anything. I am using POP3 access to my gmail account. getmail works, and downloads the email to my maildir ($HOME/mail) without errors. I can send mail with mstmp and mutt without issues. However, whenever I try and check my email with mutt, I get a 'no mailboxes found' error. I got these files from the Arch mutt guide, which I have reread several times. I also searched the forums, found the mailboxes file idea, but to no avail.
Included are my ~/.mutt/muttrc and ~/.mutt/mailboxes and procmailrc files:
set realname='Ben Simon'
set sendmail="/usr/bin/msmtp"
set edit_headers=yes
#set folder=~/mail
#set mbox=+mbox
#set spoolfile=+inbox
#set record=+sent
#set postponed=+drafts
set mbox_type=maildir
mailboxes +inbox +fb
source /home/cymon/.mutt/mailboxes
Mailboxes:
set folder="/home/cymon/mail"
set postponed="/home/cymon/mail/drafts"
set record="+sent"
mailboxes +inbox
mailboxes +send
mailboxes +fb
procmailrc
MAILDIR=$HOME/mail

LOGFILE=$MAILDIR/log

Thank you for your time, and sorry! It seems all I have to talk about are my problems.

u need something to fetch mail with that will create the directory. fetchmail or getmail are two such apps. try the mutt wiki page for more info

to dolby : he said he used getmail already.
to cymon :
Why are you using 2 mutt config with nearly the same stuff in both ?
Some vars are commented in the first, but not others, like mailboxes. Looks quite odd.
Also do you use sent or send ?
set realname='Ben Simon'
set sendmail="/usr/bin/msmtp"
set edit_headers=yes
set folder="/home/cymon/mail"
set spoolfile=+inbox
set record=+sent
set postponed=+drafts
set mbox_type=maildir
mailboxes +inbox +sent +fb
edit : could you paste output of ls /home/cymon/mail/* ?

I deleted the ~/.mutt/mailboxes file, now it's all in muttrc.

Why the hell do you want to use mutt when there is a ton of nice and user friendly mail clients out there?
And since you are using gmail, its web interface is decent also.

PGP support, multiple mailboxes, real mail sorting with procmail for starters.

It's quick, it's fully configurable, it interacts perfectly with other apps, to your liking, and one learns a lot about mail format, handling, encoding, etc. - a little like Arch, actually... And it's the most user-friendly mail reader I've come across so far.

The trailing slash on paths to maildirs is important: it specifies maildir format as opposed to mbox, etc. My guess is that, because you're not using a trailing slash, mutt is expecting a file and instead finding a directory. I would recommend consolidating your config to a single file, and that it look like this:
set realname='Ben Simon'
set sendmail="/usr/bin/msmtp"
set edit_headers=yes
mailboxes +inbox +fb
set folder="/home/cymon/mail"
set spoolfile="/home/cymon/mail/"
set postponed="/home/cymon/mail/drafts"
set record="+sent"
mailboxes +inbox/
mailboxes +send/
mailboxes +fb/
I think that'll work.

It worked! Thanks a bunch! Reading through the tutorial, I saw some different cases where trailing slashes were used and not used, but I didn't think of them here. Thanks again!
