I am trying to use OpenOffice to open the new Word docx files that I keep getting. I followed the instructions here:
http://www.blogmanno.com/?q=node/64
But whenever I try and open a docx it says the file is corrupted. I notice it states you need the Novell version of OpenOffice. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work with the ArchLinux build? Thanks.

Have you tried with OpenOffice 2.3 from testing? I don't know if it will work, but I heard that there's supposed to be a built in filter.

You will likely run into the issue that the .docx is an M$ IP thing that Novell has access to since they payed the piper so to speak and it's a closed source proprietary format we won't get access to. I could be wrong but I doubt M$ is keen on releases it for public consumption.

Also according to the Openoffice site a filter for them will be available in the future but no date or version designated.

Thanks for the replies. I will hope for the best in the future (and for people to not use docx!)

Has anyone been able to get the docx and xlsx converters working on Arch? I've seen a few other distros have them working - but I only care about Arch
