KDM does nothing--nothing![psuedo-Solved]

Hi,

I've got a weird problem where KDM won't do anything.  I followed the wiki and I have kdm installed.  Which kdm shows the correct path to it.  I tried the inittabe method and the adding the kdm daemon to rc.conf method.  Neither works.  No errors appear and I'm just dropped to tty1.

It is really weird.  Xorg works fine as I'm in it and typing this message using it.  I get into it manually using startx and having exec startkde in my .xinitrc

However, I would really like KDM to work.  Any ideas?  I've tried to reinstall kdebase as well with no effect.

Any logs I can look at or something?

thanks in advance,
e^1

Hi!

Write kdm as superuser on console or change the default init level to 4.

later:
Oh, I'm sorry: There isn't runlevel 4 on arch (that is Slackware smile), but writing kdm should work.

do you have X at all? kdm fails silently if it can't start an X server, so try startx

Do you need KDM because you need a login manager for a multiuser machine?

If you want just want to start x at boot, have a look here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Start_X_at_boot

Re: KDM does nothing--nothing![psuedo-Solved]

No X was installed and such the whole time.  That was never a problem as I Indicated in my first post that X was working via startx.

I eventually resolved the problem by reinstalling kdebase and restarting.  I had already modded the runlevels and everything, I don't know what the problem was...?  Oh well.
