Hello all,
I discovered (from a blog) a web site which has implemented a "Linux Distribution Chooser".
You answer a few questions and the site give you a list of Linux distributions that could suite your needs.
I answered the questions seriously, thinking it will redirect me to Debian or Ubuntu.
Guess what ?
It adviced me to use
1- Arch Linux
2- Gentoo Linux
3- Slackware.
:-)
It must be a good site !
And you, what is the distribution you should use ?

thats hardly an arch discussion but more of an opffopic topic.
btw the results on this site are always identical. plus it doesnt know that arch has binary repos (an application database or what it calls it)
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)
[You learn that sarcasm does not often work well in international forums. That is why we avoid it. -- ewaller (arch linux forum moderator)

Interesting. I took the test and got the same results as you, chicha. ![]()
It can be a positive contribution for those "lost" in the vast expansion of linux distros. In my case it gave me a warning that none of these distros have libraries, but that's not the case (at list with Arch and Slack), so I'm not sure what that meant but other than that I think is good.
Thanks.

hmmm I got
Debian
Open Suse
Ubuntu
and Fedora.
I guess I focussed on stability and lots of prepackaged apps too much in my response ![]()

I got:
Gentoo
ArchLinux
Slackware
Offline
My results were: 1.Slackware, 2.Gentoo (which makes me wonder why didn't Arch showed up too?)
To get something done, a committee should consist of no more than three persons, two of them absent.

I've tried it several times at different points, and the results have always been either 1. Arch, 2. Gentoo, 3. Slack or 1. Gentoo, 2. Arch, 3. Slack. I don't know what kind of answers one would have to come up with to end up as a -buntuite.

My response was: "Sorry, we were not able to find any matches. Please check back later."
I guess I am supposed to be using Windows.

Yup. I even tried to force it to give me Arch, and it won't do it. The site is defective.

This is serious. If a developer is advised to use Ubuntu... no, I won't complete that thought.

Gives me Arch first, Gentoo second. Frankly I would prefer Slackware to Gentoo - it's dependable and very fast even if it isn't always up to date, whereas compile times on Gentoo are completely prohibitive even on very fast machines.
(Then again, I've heard that Gentoo now offers binary packages for a lot of things. Maybe I should try it again on a separate partition... Though it does still use SysV initscripts, so it could be an excercise in frustration.)
BTW is it just me or does the quiz have a strange concept of what constitutes "expert"? Arch isn't newbie-friendly, but it doesn't require expert-level knowledge of how the OS works.

If the question is what I should use the answer is, of course, Arch Linux.
If the question is that zegenie studios' think I should use the answer is Kubuntu, Debian or OpenSuSE...
I feel almost offended... :S
