Which motherboard to use, Core 2 Duo? Problems with P35 chipset SOLVED

Here's the background story:

I bought the MSI P35 Neo and have been having big trouble with it and Linux - practically nothing works right. I read some positive posts at Ubuntu forums and decided to give the P35 chipset a try.

My current Arch setup is this: I have a 80 GB SATA drive with four partitions, each has type raid from an earlier raid setup. There is 100 MB root partition and then the rest three are LVM2 ones.

Having swapped the MB and installed all the things properly I managed to boot the computer. Got into Grub boot menu, and then saw the two Arch logos... and booting stopped at "Error: Failed to parse block device name for /dev/md0". Googling around for a long while and trying out things took me to some interesting forum posts - one of them was the suggestion to set SATA mode from IDE to ACHI at BIOS. This option did not exist on this MSI MB - just IDE was there.

Then I tried some live cds that have worked well previously. Latest Knoppix failed to boot and also System rescue cd did not boot. Still Ubuntu to go. Arch installation CD (dated 02.08.2007) booted up nicely and even seemed to recognize the partitions that are on the SATA drive. But LVM2 and RAID were not recognized by the installer at boot. Almost all the devices at `lspci` are "unknown devices". I guess this MSI's MB is a dead end on Linux.

What MB should I try now that should work fine?

I have an an asus P5KC, which uses the P35 chipset, and everything works great on mine in linux.

I don't have raid setup though, although I do use a SATA hd.

I found something interesting:

http://gentoo-wiki.com/ASUS_P5B_Deluxe
I managed to return the P35 MB and ordered Asus P5B instead. So now just waiting for it to arrive smile

I got the Asus P5B motherboard and it has been perfect! AHCI was there for SATA and each device was recognized by Arch. Comparing the new computer to my old 1 GHz Athlon - the new one flies! I left some GBs of files to copy from older SATA hd to new one and could even browse the web and listen to music at the same time.
