now that's strange

i installed xorg-server ... make an xorg.conf file .. try it and it works
then i installed kde but startx or startkde failed to start.

ok, i removed kde and installed gnome
same problem

gnome removed.
trying xfce...
damn, works fine :}

that problem with kde and gnome was:

(EE) I810(0): V_BIOS address 0x0 out of range
(EE) I810(0): VBE initialization failed.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

i try it with xf86-video-i810 and xf86-video-intel

does your laptop have a i965 chipset?

i915 and that must work with i810 or intel drivers?
