grub boot menu appears

Hi!
Hope you can help me, it's something general about grub.

I tried to boot the GParted-LiveCD and the GParted/Clonzilla-LiveCD too. Both don't really work: if I boot up, there just appears the minimal bash-like grub. But there should be a GRUB-menu.
Funny: if I boot one of the CDs in virtualbox, it works o_0 !?!

I remember the same happening when I tried to install FreeBSD (before I tried arch). That's the reason why I never tried BSD...couldn't start the setup.

Don't know, but I think some rescue discs I tried threw up the same menu.

Does anybody know, how to fix this? Could it be, that the BIOS has troubles with Discs because they are not fixed or, e.g. burnt "too fast"?

Cheers, clownfish
