Edit:
Solved. It was an FVWM error actually (or my error to be exact, I had some FVWM tunings that needed tweaking).
Strangely though it still requires that I click the OO window active before I can start typing in FF (my OO starts as an inactive window on a specified desktop page). But this I can live with.

I've got this problem with a recently updated OpenOffice.org, that when I open it, I can't type in Firefox (or Thunderbird) anymore. So far other applications I've tested work fine even after opening OO. Typing in Firefox and TB doesn't work before I restart FVWM. I haven't changed any settings manually, and everything worked with a previous installation of OO before 'pacman -Syu'. (Can't remember what that version was.)
I read elsewhere that a similar problem was caused by LC_* environment variables that weren't identical. I've set my LC_ALL as fi_FI.utf8 but it didn't resolve the problem. Any help?
