Same here... another guy had it also with 7.3. I think it's a bug. Nothing major though...

Ohh, and I thought my keyboard was dying. lol

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

does anybody have the old PKGBUILD for xf86-video-intel?

New X.org + Driver didn't work for me, and old X.org + new Driver doesn't work also.

So atm I am stuck with old X.org + Vesa, as I can't access the Testing PKGBUILDS via WebCVS sad

There was no "old" xf86-video-intel package, the one in testing is brand new. You must have used xf86-video-i810 or something like that.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

Hey, after installing xorg-server 1.4-2, synaptics 0.14.6.99-1, xf86-video-intel 2.1.1-2 and xf86-input-keyboard 1.2.2-2 from testing everything works just great!

So my advice to people trying the new xorg is not to forget the synaptics (if needed) and keyboard driver!

thanks

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

I got this working with a legacy nvidia driver (96xx) by adding -ignoreABI to the end of the startup command in gdm:  /usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf  in the Standard-server section.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

Well, it works.

But Xorg 7.3 sucks...

I was waiting for it from a while, beacause of my intel 945GM video chipset. However performance is definitely shit. Glxgears runs with lower fps. True Combat Elite works with 3 - 4 fps!
VideRam was 128 Mb in Xorg 7.2 with i810 driver. Now Xorg 7.3 uses 256 Mb with intel driver. But no performance improvements. Brightness is too high. I'm angry.

I am astonished... Hardware is always supported in a shitty way on Linux. And I am a Linux user from 10 years.
I'm very tired of it. Thinking to throw my laptop off my window.sad

wtf

This should be working with the latest nVidia driver in the testing repository, unless you prefer the 96xx drivers.

This sounds like a driver issue to me.  Are you using the new xf86-video-intel?  If not try them and see if that improves anything.  From the sound of things you're using xf86-video-i810.  I'm afraid I don't know too much about the intel drivers since I don't have one, but I'm sure someone here could give you more help.

X.org 7.3 is running great for me with the nVidia drivers in testing.  I used to have problems with Compiz and fullscreen apps crashing the X server but they seem to be all gone now.  I've been waiting a long time for someone to fix that.

I'm using xf86-video-intel. Performance is very poor and the problem is not all related to the hardware. See in detail this article:

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a … =774&num=2

Xf86-video-intel is ok for 2D. It just can't be compared to the win driver for the 3D (suppose the problem is in Mesa though...).
Xorg 7.3 seems to be reasonably stable tough.
The new intel driver ignores the hardware brightness value of  the TFT, for the happiness of tanned people...
To modify brightness you should use the xbacklight utility. However xbacklight is stunned / brocken and I can't find out the logical sequence of the set value. Grrrrr..... hmm

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I have not noticed any performance issues.  Everything is same as before for me, maybe better.
I am using xf86-video-intel.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

There are 3 things I added to my xorg [after upgrading xorg-server xf86-video-intel xf86-input-syanptics]

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics

It says to add a whole section for the touchpad.  After I did this and the other two modifications, it works.
