ISA card support?

I have an old 8-bit sound blaster card I would like to use, but may not be able to because of some sort of hardware problem, which was the root behind most of my recent threads and may be the problem here. In any event, is there any way this card wouldn't be detected on boot aside from hardware/bios issues? ISAPNP says there were no Plug & Play devices found, but are all ISA devices able to be detected by PNPISA?

Re: ISA card support?

No. Only the most recent ISA cards were PNP-able, 8-bit cards not at all.
I have several old ISA SoundBlasters myself, even an old 8-bit one, CT-1320. Well, seems like there's not much to configure, 4 jumpers. So far I've no clue what DRQ1 and JP1 are for (both enabled), so just make sure you choose an IRQ and I/O address that isn't in use. 220h/IRQ5 are old SoundBlaster defaults, iirc. You can check with /proc/interrupts and /proc/ioports.

Re: ISA card support?

After a modprobe snd-sb8 irq=5 dma8=1 it popped up. Thanks you very much for the help! big_smile
