Hi again.
I recently upgraded my arch a bit, installed beryl and oss4 soundsystem and some other small stuff. Everything looks really fine now, and I´m quite satisfied. But today I noticed that my system freezes now when it has run for some time. Everytime it was between 30 and 60 minutes, in which i could do everything normal and then it just freezes. One time I was only hearing music, the other time I was surfing the web.
When the system freezes i can still move the mousecursor, but nothing else works.
I thought about a fresh install, but everything worked so nice I dont want to make everything new.
is there any log or something like that where i can search for the reason of the freeze? Or does anyone here know what the problem could be maybe?
Thanks,
Cretain

Is this an ati video card, if so did you add the agplock =0 or something like that to your xorg.conf?

Maybe overheat?

No, its an NVIDIA Card (7800GT), and I dont think its because of overheating. When I am in windows i never get above 45 degrees, even if I´m playing games.

To troubleshoot disable Beryl and then see if the problem still occurs.

Cat /var/log/errors.log as root. Maybe has some leads to why it happens.

This are the last two days of my errors.log, which doesnt say me anything.
The problem is not beryl, I just had another freeze without it. Now I disabled the sound in KDE Control Center, because Oss4 was the last thing I installed before.

Have you installed boinc?

No, Boinc is only running under windows atm

I had the same problem. Turns out the memory was bad. (memtest86 may not pick it up - it didn't for me).

Cretain, I had a similar problem where everything apparently freezes with sound working and the mouse moving. I unplugged the mouse and keyboard and re-inserted them and the freeze disappeared. This happened fairly often and now the problem has suddenly gone away. I did in the interim un-install oss4. Though I do not think that it is related.

In my case this problem appears only when I view web pages with Opera or Firefox. Often these pages contain flash (e.g. ag.ru) or javascript (e.g. meebo.com) content.
Is it nvidia driver bug?
