Can finally quite MSOfice

I just updated to OOo 2.3.0 and after fiddling around with it for about 20 mins I think I can safely say that OOo Calc is finally better the Excel and I shouldn't have to use MSOffice anymore. The new chart wizard, though a bit weird at first, is much better and finally has support for data series (plotting multiple data ranges on the same axis). This has kept me from using OOo Calc up till now. This makes my quite happy. It's nice to see more open source programs beginning to out shine the proprietary guys.

Re: Can finally quite MSOfice

The only thing missing in OpenOffice is inverting the scales the axes in charts. Both MS Office and gnumeric and do it. Hopefully 2.4 will have this feature.

Re: Can finally quite MSOfice

You mean switch the x & y-axis? Is this not the same as switch the column/rows?...

No I guess not, as this wouldn't produce the right graph. I have never had to do this before so I have never thought about.

One problem with what I stated earlier though, it seems that Selecting select data points for series is impossible as the dialog for selecting data points only allows for one click of the mouse button. Plus the new charting feature is ridiculously slow. Hopefully they can fix these things in the 2.3.1 release.

Re: Can finally quite MSOfice

No, I don't mean switch the x & y-axis. (I'll correct my original post)
Gnumeric and MSOffice let you invert the axis.

Could you explain this to me, about inverting the axis? I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Thanks.

Re: Can finally quite MSOfice

Ok, give me some time. I don't have access to a windows installation. If I can have someone make a screenshot, I'll post back.

Edit:..
I found this image on google http://aspire.cs.uah.edu/aspire/sc01/ex … raphi6.gif
Notice the data in the Y axis is inverted. You can't do this on openoffice.
There is however a feature request here. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=24614

Yes, I'm rebuilding 2.3.0 with that patch now. It's around 25% done. It usually takes me 9 hours to build openoffice but I'll let you know if it works once it's done.

Ahh see what you mean now. I'm glad I know of this now as I could really see this coming up sometime in the future. Thanks for the input.

OO 2.3... Why I cannot install any dictionary? "File -> Wizards -> Install new dictionaries" doesn't work...
Tools > Options > OO.org > Security, Macro security doesn't work. Anything else doesn't work?

Oh well, ms office > all smile

pacman -S openoffice-spell-{language here}
I have openoffice-spell-{en,es} to have support for my main and second language. Nowadays I have problems with which is my main language.

Re: Can finally quite MSOfice

# pacman -S openoffice-spell-lt
error: 'openoffice-spell-lt': not found in sync db

# aurbuild -cs openoffice-spell-lt
openoffice-spell-lt: not found in AUR

Just admit it - there is only one Office Suite and it's called MS Office wink

Re: Can finally quite MSOfice

Four your main language this statement may apply, but why don't you go ahead and help creating a locale for OOo in your main language?
