In the last week I've notices serious problems with xorg.
After some event, I am not sure which one, keyboard stops responding.
Mouse cursor works, but I can't click on anything.
I can't switch to text console.
But I can kill xorg with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE.
Have you noticed something similiar?
I use xfce4, [testing] repository.

I had that a few days ago, couldn't reproduce it. I was also running xfce4. I havn't had it today and im running xfdesktop+xfce-mcs-manager+pekwm+xfce4-panel... so it may have been xfwm4.

What kind of applications you were using? Do you remember? Firefox? What else?

Opera. OOo, urxvt. Not firefox, though I tried using firefox instead of opera -- suspecting it was opera -- but it happened then too. Even happened once shortly after login.
I've used all three apps extensively since ditching going to the aforementioned xfdesktop+xfce-mcs-manager+pekwm+xfce4-panel setup and havn't had a problem. Kill xfwm4 and see how you go.

Alright, had it again. Was using mozplugger (openoffice document loaded in browser) when it happened, and was first time I'd used mozplugger since dropping xfwm4. You using mozplugger or is this a coincidence?

I don't know what mozplugger is.
It happens few times each evening, so this is really serious issue.
However, I can't reproduce it to submit a bug report.

mozplugger allows you to have openoffice/evince/mplayer other apps, embedded within firefox/mozilla/opera.

Take a look on arch-dev-public, seems others have had it too. Common is xfce4 and testing... but that could be coincidental. I'm running straight pekwm now to see if i can eliminate it.

Thanks, I read the thread.
It's not an nVidia issue, because I use ATI Radeon with open source driver (on my home computer).
However, this problem never happen on xfce4+testing+Beryl+Intel (that's the computer I use at work).
It's also not related to mplayer.

i've applied a patch to the 64bit xfwm4 package that should solve the locking. it should hit the mirrors soon. i686 will follow a bit later. you can build it from cvs if you don't want to wait.

I'll build this locally in a bit and test it out. Last night XFCE locked within minutes of booting up.

I rebuilt the xfwm package usig your patch and it worked perfectly so far. Left the laptop on while I ran to the store and no lockups. Thanks for the patch.

When can we expect i686 binary?
Offline
it should be on the way to the mirrors now.
