I use Gramps to manage my family tree. It is written in python and it has stopped working. I resently upgraded to gnome 2.2 but it has been a while since I tried Gramps I don't know if that was the cause.

Any error messages when you run it from CLI?

No module named _bsddb is the error I get.

I'm not a python expert, so I'm kind of guessing here, but there is a "python-bsddb" package in community - try installing it and see if that helps.

Still no joy:(

Just installed it and it works for me with gnome 2.18 packages so it might be gnome 2.2 issue.

Have you tried rebuilding. A dependency may have been updated with Gnome 2.20 in testing.
Offline
Yes I've rebuilt it twice so far no joy.

I've made a few changes and now I get past the previous error and now I get
File "/opt/gnome/share/gramps/GrampsWidgets.py", line 77, in <module>
hand_cursor = gtk.gdk.Cursor(gtk.gdk.HAND2)
RuntimeError: could not create GdkCursor object

same problem here, only with an even less informative error message -- just a segmentation fault.

I've started getting a segmentation fault as well, it was working the other day I'm using xfce4, did a pacman -Syu and am assuming it is related to one of the 270MB of package updates that caused it.

New version today, I can see (2.2.8-2) but still segfaulting after upgrade.

I just updated to 2.2.9 from 2.2.8. It works again. All is well.

Thanks for the tip. Works here too.
I must say, though, that over the time I've used Gramps, it has given me more trouble than the entire rest of the system taken together... I sigh in relief every time it actually starts. Shouldn't have to be like that.
