Recent -Syu removes functions in kde

Recent download ....pacman -Syu... downloaded kde packages among others.

The result caused loss of ...juk..k3b..and kaboodle in kde.

Attempts to fix the problem with pacman to download the pkgs again ended with the statement "not in sync db".

I suggest that such a situation should be addressed in the forum..ANNOUNCEMENTS to warn others and to clarify the corrective action.

Re: Recent -Syu removes functions in kde

Specifically:

k3b: relocation error: /opt/kde/lib/libartskde.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZTv0_n28_N4Arts16SynthModule_stub11autoSuspendEv

I was forced to use xcdroast for the first time.  (it works, but... ugh!)

mr. ed;

Yowsah!  That is one error message I received among four or more.!!

I am attempting to get resolution of the situation but haven't received a good appreciation of its validity.

At the least, an announcement of the problem and suggestions to fix would be a positive stroke of genius.  Especially to warn others of impending doom!!

Re: Recent -Syu removes functions in kde

Many people (including me) have the exact same message when running k3b.  There are a few discussions about it in the forums.  There are a couple  of solutions mentioned but the only one that appears to work for everyone and doesn't involve recompiling is to downgrade the kdelibs and kdemultimedia packages to their previous versions.  Check the directory /var/cache/pacman/pkg and see if they are there.  If you still have the previous versions, as root, [cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg] and then [pacman -U fullnameofpackage.pkg.tar.gz].  To downgrade kdelibs it would be [pacman -U kdelibs-3.2.2-2.pkg.tar.gz].  If you don't do this from the /var/cache/pacman/pkg directory, it will not work so be sure to cd first.

Re: Recent -Syu removes functions in kde

Thanks for your kind attention and I will report my solution,

I was informed by Xentac to use   ....-R pkgname.... to remove the two kde pkgs

Then to use...... pacman -A filename.... to install the previous version.

I had already determined that it was resident in the cache.

I discovered ... pacman -A filename didn't work...

I then used ....pacman -Af filename which didn't work!

I then dis....pacman -Af  filename  (two spaces between Af and filename) and it worked.

Replacing both pkgs solved the whole problem!!!!! big_smile  big_smile
