[Solved] No harddisk on my laptop?

I'm trying to install Archlinux on my noteboot (Mynote C750)
Booting from the cdrom goes fine. But when I try to partition my harddrive, it gives an error.
So, I decided to partition the harddrive manually. To my surprise, Archlinux says there is no harddrive present. hmm

The IDE-controller is a SiS 5513. Funny though, because the cdromdrive works perfectly. And it is connected
to the same controller.

I hope someone can help me out here?

Always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual.

I will try the ide-legacy boot-option too.

Re: [Solved] No harddisk on my laptop?

de boot option ide-legacy did the trick. Arch reconised my harddrive and I was able to partition it. Right now it is installing the packages. I'm looking forward to put my first Arch Linux installation to the test. It's looking very promising smile

Re: [Solved] No harddisk on my laptop?

ArchLinux is now installed on my laptop. I've got Xorg and Gnome running without much trouble.

I was looking for a good alternative for Gentoo. I really liked Gentoo (actually, I still do) but I got tired of it, because maintaining a Gentoo system has become a living hell. So, I installed Ubuntu on my desktop and decided it was nice. I also wanted to install it on my laptop, but I couldn't get it running. I suppose the problem was also related to my IDE-controller, because Grub could't find the partition Ubuntu was installed on. Since I couldn't get it right, I searched on for another alternative. PCLinuxOS also refused to install. And than I stumbled on ArchLinux. At first I also had, once again, the same IDE-controller problem. But this time I got some good help and managed to fix it. big_smile

I'm allready feeling home in my new ArchLinux environment. It's doesn't differ that much from Gentoo and it is pretty straightforward. The documentation seems also to be ok. Everthing I wanted to know was in he wiki. I think ArchLinux is going to stay on my laptop.

Thanks everybody!

Thats weird that ubuntu and pclinuxos wouldn't install. I had to use ide-legacy to install arch but ubuntu and pclinuxos install fine with no boot options.

Glad you got it working
