Hi, completely "out of the sudden" my quake3 quit working. When I fire it up to connect a server (/usr/local/bin/quake3-smp +set fs_game cpma +connect myserversip:port) then it hangs on awaiting gamestate. I actually have to kill it with "-9", just a plain killall quake3.x86 doesn't kill it anymore then.
It's been working for years perfectly till last night and today it stopped working. The only things I can remember that I did in between yesterday and today was to play around with my wlan-stick to get the encryption going and updating my system. I'm thinking that one of the updates might have killed my quake, I don't have any other explanation for that. If that's the case, someone should be able to verify that.
edit: hmm, foobilliard (an OpenGL app) seems to work fine...
Another thing I noticed is: I start quake3 from aterm ($TERM=xterm). after I killed quake3 that aterm that I started quake from does not show what I type in anymore yet is usable: I mean, for example (I start quake3 as mentioned above, then I have to kill it) I type in "whoami". It doesn't show what I typed in but when I hit return it prints out my correct username but without the preceding newline. Example:
(this is what it should look like)
[lord_helmchen@stentenced ~]$ whoami
lord_helmchen
[lord_helmchen@stentenced ~]$
(this is what it looks like in that terminal after I killed quake)
[lord_helmchen@stentenced ~]$ lord_helmchen
[lord_helmchen@stentenced ~]$

I just tried to start quake3 instead of quake3-smp. That works, so I guess somehow the multi-core support got broken. (I always used quake3-smp, worked perfectly until today as mentioned above).
