X server freezes (sort of)

Every now and again my X server 'freezes'. I can still use the currently focused application but can't switch or close applications. These freezes have gotten more frequent (about every 30 minutes) and I am having to kill the X server and log back in. Using Firefox seems to be particularly problematic.

I have a Radeon Mobility 200 on a Compaq laptop with 768MB RAM

Here my xorg.conf which I have created with hwd -xa.

Re: X server freezes (sort of)

Obviously the same problem here.
System freezes after minutes or hours, sometimes even while starting GDM.
When it happenes I cannot use the currently active window like lenni. Everything is frozen except for the mouse pointer.
It is possible to log into the machine remotely.
Process X is using up all CPU. Killing X results in a complete freeze. No interaction of any kind is possible after that.

It gets very annoying because you cannot predict when it's going to happen or what causes it.
I will post messages.log as soon I'm able to boot the machine correctly again.

Edit: Well, doesn't want to boot anymore:

Looks like ATI is troublesome...
Will try using another driver.

Edit2: Boots with "radeon" driver....
