Installing Murrine? "GTK+-2.8 is required to compile"

I'm getting awfully close to getting Arch to be the perfect OS. Dang, it is so nice!

When I found out that there was no Murrine package in the repos, I frolicked happily over to AUR thinking "Yay! My first AUR package!".

So I grabbed this: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?d … s=0&SeB=nd
(http://cimi.netsons.org/media/download_gallery/murrine/murrine-0.53.1.tar.bz2 in particular)

I extracted it in /var/abs/local/ and was surprised to find no PKGBUILD that I had been hearing about. So I thought I would do it the old fashioned way (as per the Readme)

./configure  gave me this:

GTK+-2.8? Wha? I have:

extra/gtk-engines 2.12.1-1
    Theme engines for GTK+ 2

Already isntalled. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? And why doesn't makepkg work with this?

Thanks!

Re: Installing Murrine? "GTK+-2.8 is required to compile"

gtk-engine-murrine 0.53.1-1 is in the community repo.

The community repo is the part of AUR where popular packages are placed, compiled as binaries (just like those in core and extra), but is maintained by the Trusted Users instead of arch developers.

Enable the community repo in /etc/pacman.conf, set the mirror correct in /etc/pacman.d/community if needed.
Then you can install murrine with pacman -S gtk-engine-murrine

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: Installing Murrine? "GTK+-2.8 is required to compile"

# pacman -S gtk-engine-murrine
error: 'gtk-engine-murrine': not found in sync db

I tried that. Here's my pacman.conf:

#
# /etc/pacman.conf
#
# See the pacman manpage for option directives

#
# GENERAL OPTIONS
#
[options]
LogFile     = /var/log/pacman.log
HoldPkg     = pacman glibc
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget --passive-ftp -c -O %o %u

#
# REPOSITORIES
# - can be defined here or included from another file
# - pacman will search repositories in the order defined here
# - local/custom mirrors can be added here or in separate files
# - repositories listed first will take precedence when packages
# have identical names, regardless of version number
#
#[testing]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/testing

[core]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/core

[extra]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/extra

#[community]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/community

#[unstable]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/unstable

# An example of a custom package repository. See the pacman manpage for
# tips on creating your own repositories.
#[custom]
#Server = file:///home/custompkgs

I also tried -Sy:

# pacman -Sy gtk-engine-murrine
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core is up to date
 extra is up to date
error: 'gtk-engine-murrine': not found in sync db

Any ideas?

Re: Installing Murrine? "GTK+-2.8 is required to compile"

You need to uncomment the community repo in pacman.conf (the [community] part specifically)
