Thinkpad X41

I currently think about buying this laptop new for 900€ (1,5gb ram). The most recent models are way too expensive and it seems enough for mostly text stuff.

As far as i see there arent many, if any, problems running linux on it - but i heard its HDD sucks and cant be replaced. (well, it can, but only with the same model yikes ) So I'd like to know if anyone here used or uses this laptop and if he has problems with the hard drive and how annoying the sound it makes really is.

(if you think its terribly over-priced please note that as well)

Re: Thinkpad X41

It has been my experience that the hard drive made using Windows unbearable. It was really slow to start up (~5-10 minutes) Linux... not so much (< 1 minute). Once the laptop starts up, the only time I notice the hard drive is when opening applications.

I've read that many people take issue with the clicking noise as well. I can barely hear it... I have gone through 3 hard drives in 2 years though.

Hope that helps.
