Valve's hiring people to port their games to linux. This somewhat made my day

I believe this when I see it.

Yay! With a little chance, we might finally get native versions of Steam, Half-Life, CS...!!!

Good point, I also don't think much about it when I see it in the news, But it's a job ad, and its nice that we are seeing that they are lifting their asses to work on a port.
anyways I hope, even if it's slow, blizzard, valve and everyone else follows id software's lead.
cheers,
Jerry

That was on linux-gamers.net long time ago... But this might also mean that blizzard are hiring people to port dedicated server to linux (anyway I hope it's the other way around)
Anyway blizzard are making their to use both opengl an Direct3D rendering and wine has no trouble to run games that have native opengl rendering.
My victim you are meant to be
No, you cannot hide nor flee
You know what I'm looking for
Pleasure your torture, I will endure...

opengl support made my day again.
Certainly hope they port starcraft II to linux or at least make it linux friendly, And that upcoming Fallout III would also be nice... it's nice to see those old titles coming back.

My cynicism is telling me that that position at Valve is not what we're actually reading it as; there's got to be some angle we're not seeing where "Port Windows-based games to the Linux platform" does not actually amount to someone at Valve porting their games to the Linux platform...
(Thinking visually out-loud)
Hmm, it can't be a console since the big three don't use linux to run game binaries. I can't think of any non-x86 platforms that linux runs on which would benefit Valve in anyway... Do they want someone with Linux game programming to port updates to the linux game servers? No wait, it's listed under responsibilities, not qualifications. Although the fact that they don't have something along the lines of "Extensive OpenGL Experience" in qualifications, and that they are targeting people with extensive knowledge of network algorithms may support that.
Man, I hate the fact that I love their games (see avatar )

That would be really cool. Although with Wine the old starcraft works perfectly...

Linux Viking: Yup, I think I've read it in frank's corner months ago. I've got a starcraft installation lying around... now why didn't I think of installing that.
Jb: love them too but I've only tried them in LAN games. It brought me a lot of fun until college happened. I'm done with college though, I think it would be fun to try gaming again in 2008.
goodluck to us linux gamers.
