What command are you using to create the archive?

I'm making archive with "File-roller" (default for gnome).

Someone filed a upstream bug report about this yesterday. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487012
file-roller works with tar 1.18 but gets somewhat broken by gnu tar 1.19
If you have any helpful information or hints for a fix, add them to the upstream bug.
Most gnome devs are still using gnu tar 1.18 so the upstream bug is still marked unconfirmed. I updated to file-roller 2.20.1 and it's still broken.

Yes, but the archive is created. According to my experience, you can safely ignore the errors.

There's a patch in the upstream file-roller bug report. I tried it and it fixes the bug.
Hopefully it will get reviewed and go into file-roller 2.20.2
