I'm doing an upgrade and got this message:
warning: sudo: forcing upgrade to version 1.6.9p6-1
I've seen it plenty of times but always wondered why some packages need forcing to be upgraded.
Can anyone tell me why?

It's related with version number. It has letter mixed with numbers, so pacman treats newer version of package as older than currently installed.

So pacman thinks that the new version of sudo is actually older than the one currently installed so some flag is set somewhere to say that it isn't and that the upgrade must be forced.
That makes sense I supposed.
