Auto-disable autoindent for nano?

After starting nano I can turn off autoindent wiht Alt+I, but would like to disable to have off by default.  The autoindent is real annoyance when pasting scripts and other text.  I tried putting

set noautoindent

in my .nanorc, since "set autoindent" is a recognized option for that (even though is default), but I get error message when starting nano that doesn't recognize "set noautoindent" as an option.

I googled and found fixes for vi, but none for nano.

Re: Auto-disable autoindent for nano?

I don't have a ~/.nanorc, but I put "unset autoindent" in /etc/nanorc. (I believe it used to have "set autoindent")

Re: Auto-disable autoindent for nano?

From nano's online documentation:

set/unset autoindent
    Use auto-indentation.

I made it long
as I lacked the time to make it short...
