okok i already thought somebody would find that magenta gray to girlish... i like it (no im not a girl, nor am i gay )
i can accept if the majority wont like it!
I like the 1st and 3rd of your Black / Yellow submission very much... i do like your simplifyed logo as well!
But i think even Black / Yellow istn't original enough! Maybe purple (as the color of royal) could put even more emphasize on the "Arch is King" theme.

Here my first poor version (only spend 15min) of a new arch...

Deep red, maybe? That is almost as royal. But fairly unoriginal.
BTW, the 4 different color combos are meant to accommodate various design features in the background on which those are placed.
love the yellow scheme. But yeah. I like yellow/grey/white/black combos generally bring back BeOS!
Still don't like the crown, it's just arrogant. Arch's always been fairly modest to me. We're stretching far from our roots, I don't think we should ditch our familiar Arches alltogether.
I know, all criticism, no product, but im workin on something... just missing the bit known as 'time'.

Aw, BeOS... I keep forgetting about it... just like many people.
James, I don't mind the criticism, as long as it is either strictly technical or expression of personal opinion. However, I just don't feel comfortable about opinion that is presented as general when it is only personal, especially when it comes from a non-contributing, non-constructive-criticizing people, or at least from someone I perceive as such.
To get back on topic. Are you suggesting that for all practical purposes, we are not to interpret arch in the sense Judd used it when he'd given the name to our distro?

I mean, I don't know how many ppl would agree with me, but that is THE example of simplicity and beauty in an unified package. I also expect that it will also be quite easy to scale it down or degrade it. Perfect.
btw, where do you guys get those sticker templates?

I know I said I'd stick to the crown & penguin, but some of you guys seem so against it, that I simply had to come up with a new game plan.
Anyway, The new one is not too different in its arrogance, mind you, as the main theme this time is stylized Alpha (as in alpha female, or alpha male), wrapped around the Sun. Of course, someone might say, well, it could also mean that Arch is alpha quality, but I believe a good ol' smack in the face would handle those situations.

Let me add a little something too:
Great...I love it too...it looks a bit like calligraphic kanji. I'm not sure about the colors, but the idea is great!

Good to hear that somebody likes it. Appreciate it a lot, especially while there's been many grade A projects presented on this thread so far.
About the colors. I thought about something hot/aggresive and something just warmer but it didn't work for me. Maybe it's just my first impression on arch (when I switched from gentoo about 2 years ago) but I can't think about arch different than in pastel blues and dark grays/black . Speaking of course about logo on light backgrounds.
Anyway, maybe I just release svg on cc by-nc-sa for anybody to tweak .
One more thing. A couple of persons earlier on this thread mentioned creating a poll/logo competition. Well... me +1 (not like it's election sunday in Poland and stuff... )

totally awesome. Retains the arch arches, but creates something new and dynamic, and with a little more meaning to it. Scales well, adapts well, and so much can be done with that design as you showed with the 3D renders. Some people might not like the yellow, but the design's simple enough that can be changed.

TheBodziO 's one seems really awesome, neat and pro-ish, light, beautiful and explicit about "arch". The new color choice is also inside. It sounds to me like the perfection to target... but he already targeted it right in the middle \o/ Fame and glory to you TheBodziO \o/

Glad you liked it. BTW, those are not 3D renders. Those are all done in Inkscape.

I second this. We have to discuss if changing the logo in a such dramatic way is a good idea. However: good job.

Pierre, I think that matter has to be decided quickly. I mean, it is certainly NOT an easy thing to decide, but if, for example, you devs and TUs decided the logo is not going to be dramatically changed, most people would have to completely change their projects.
As for me, I'd +1 the open-to-all-concepts. Don't underestimate the possible positive impact of having a completely different logo over a subtle change of the current one. Both have their pros and cons.

I thought the exact same thing and was very impressed. It has the same basic shapes as the original logo, but added a lot to it for a completely different look. Very flexible design and scales well. Definitely my favorite of the bunch so far, and there are a lot of good submissions! Holy cow, I hadn't even seen anything after the Tango version...the wallpapers, icons, stickers, and CDs all look incredible!

I must say you successfully integrated history . Nice gothic arch, but it still looks modern!
