I'm trying to play a matroska file (1080p/x264) with vlc / mplayer but i have (somethimes) lags (XP playing the file fine with the right codec)
Linux have any solution too?
( the hardware is amd 3800x2 and 7300gt)

You may need to tweak MPlayer a bit. I would try 'enable frame dropping' in the 'video' tab in the preferences. I believe that Windows uses hardware acceleration for video playback, and the last I heard was that Linux doesn't (may be outdated info). You may also try switching over to the GL driver and see if that helps.

Perhaps your XP player uses multiple cores. mplayer doesn't (I know there is the thing with slices. But there isn't much encoded with slices.)
