Sound problem

Hi,
I have problem with sound card. After upgrade to kernel 2.6.23 sound stop working, I tried to setup alsa thru alsaconf, but without success.
This is my modprobe.conf:

# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF version 1.0.15 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---

sound works in vista and with older suspend2 kernel.

Do you have any idea what is wrong?

Re: Sound problem

Do you make use of any "asound.conf" file? I hade the same issue, but I suppose it has more to do with the new version of "alsa-lib" than the new kernel (could be wrong). Anyway I checked the output of "cat /proc/asound/cards" and compared it to my "asound.conf" file and noticed that the PCI sound-card had got a new ID. Hence it was just a matter of correcting "asound.conf" to reflect the new card IDs.

Re: Sound problem

I dont know what you mean "asound.conf"... my cat /proc/asound/cards ->

0 [Intel          ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xd0340000 irq 22

Re: Sound problem

Then you don't use such a file. "asound.conf" can be handy if you want to change default card, or add some parameters for software mixing.

Sorry, but I'm not an expert in the field so at the moment I've got no other idea.

Re: Sound problem

this happened to me to

I get "/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1327: No soundcards found..." when I start the alsa daemon after upgrading to kernel 2.6.23-3. It works fine with 2.6.22... (alsa-utils/alsa-lib 1.0.15-1)

hwdetect –show-sound gives:
snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd-hda-intel soundcore

but hwd -s gives me  "No sound card"...

I have tried alsaconf, and it detects the module snd-hda-intel and adds it to modprobe.conf but I does´t help...

everything else seams to work

i found this similar situation in http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/6617 (fixed) with kernel26-2.6.20

Re: Sound problem

This problem isn't limited to ALSA since I'm using oss-linux and am having the same difficulties after upgrading to 2.6.23. I haven't had a chance to look into it though since I'm at work.

Re: Sound problem

My sound driver broke again with kernel 2.6.23-5 from testing, but it works if I compile a new driver from svn.

I'm new to arch, and linux for that matter – is this a good time to report the problem to bugs.archlinux.org?

Re: Sound problem

I don't know, but what I know is that "Intel HDA" for some reason frequently comes up as an issue on different Linux forums. In reality there shouldn't be such a difference between "Nvidia HDA" and "Intel HDA", because the Nvidia one conforms to Intel HDA specification.

Some problems can circulate for a long time without being noticed by developers (I don't think they've got the time to follow forum activity). Hence, why not report it?
