Openbabel/Xdrawchem problem

I think this should go here - Sorry if I'm wrong

anyway:
I am a chemistry student in university and have been using Xdrawchem.
however, there appears to be a problem with it as it appears to be unable to save files properly in anything but its native format. It also crashes apparently at random. Moreover, after it crashes, it seems to be unable to open files in its native format when I restart it.

I tried running it from a terminal and got the error message below:

*** Open Babel Error  in LoadFormatFiles
  /usr/lib/openbabel/inchiformat.so did not load properly
screen

I had a look for the file mentioned but could not find any real data.

This an error message I get if I try to save anything in the MDL .mol format - then it crashes:

xdrawchem: symbol lookup error: xdrawchem: undefined symbol: _ZN9OpenBabel6OBAtom7SetTypeEPc

I am using Xdrawchem 1.9.9-3 and openbabel 2.1.1-1
